Today’s article celebrates a huge milestone for HallyuTones, as it has now been over a year since we posted our first ever interview. Since then we have posted over 50 interviews with K-Pop idols, ex-idols, indie artists, bands, music industry professionals and artists in other genres. Every single interview has been so exciting, and we are truly grateful to everyone who has read, enjoyed, or shared our posts.

To mark this occasion, I reached out to Haeyoon, singer-songwriter, lyricist, musical artist, and vocal coach, for an interview and collaborative feature! Many of you will know her best as the leader and main vocal of K-Pop girl group Cherry Bullet, or as a survival show contestant on shows Produce 48, V-1 and GIRL’S RE:VERSE.

For many K-Pop fans, Cherry Bullet were a true standout group. From their distinctive video game debut concept, to their vibrant music, and their exceptional vocals, they were truly shining stars of their generation of K-Pop.

After conducting so many interviews, I have gained an understanding of the distinct aspects that define each artist and creative I have worked with. From my experience working with Haeyoon, her defining traits are resilience, vocal talent, and a genuine love for K-Pop as a genre and all that it entails.

Read on below for our exclusive interview discussing her training experiences, her time with Cherry Bullet, and her work as a vocal coach with her new company K.V.T. LAB.

Interview:

Q1. Could you introduce yourself to the HallyuTones readers?

Hello, I’m Haeyoon, a K-pop singer who was active as the main vocalist of Cherry Bullet.

Before my debut, I also appeared on Mnet’s Produce 48 and made it to the final stage. Through the years, I have had many experiences on stage and on various broadcasts.

After my activities as a girl group member, I also worked as a solo artist. I’m very happy to meet everyone again in this new way.

Q2. What skills did you learn through your own training?

First of all, I learned how to speak, how to sing, and how to perform confidently on stage. I also trained in many different areas, including languages, exercise, and character education.

Training was not only about improving my singing or dancing skills. It also taught me discipline, responsibility, and how to continue growing as a person and as an artist.

Q3. What was the most challenging part of your training experience?

The practice itself was difficult, especially because there were almost no days off. I also felt a lot of anxiety about an uncertain future.

But the hardest part was watching friends I trained with get eliminated or leave. Those moments made me stronger, but they also shook my heart a lot. It was a difficult process emotionally, but it helped me become more resilient.

Q4. Even when your debut was confirmed, you kept practicing with your members to continue developing your skills. How did training with your members help you to improve?

I think I learned what it means to have passion for a dream and how to keep growing through constant effort.

Even after debut was confirmed, we still had to continue improving. Training with my members helped me learn how to be consistent and how to work hard together toward one goal.

Also, living and working with people who were different from me helped me learn consideration, teamwork, and relationships. It helped me grow not only as an artist, but also as a person.

Q5. How has your training experience informed your new direction as a vocal trainer and teacher?

While working as a solo artist, I also taught vocal lessons. I believed that my own audition experiences and stage experiences could be helpful to people who are pursuing the same dream.

Through teaching vocal lessons, I learned a lot as well, and those experiences made me want to share K-pop with more people and help them in a more meaningful way. That is one of the reasons I started this project.

I also spent a long time as a trainee and received vocal training for many years, so I understand how students feel during the learning process. I created my curriculum based on both my training experiences and the things I learned while teaching students.

Q6. Cherry Bullet were known for very energetic songs with varied music styles. If you had to choose one Cherry Bullet song to recommend to a new fan, which would you pick and why?

I would recommend our debut song “Q&A” and “Love So Sweet.”

I think both songs are very musical and easy for many people to enjoy. They also received a lot of positive reactions, and personally, they are two of my favorite Cherry Bullet songs.

Q7. As the leader and main vocalist of the group, you had a lot of responsibilities with your team. Which song or performance was the most challenging for you during your promotions?

“Love In Space” was one of the most challenging songs for me.

The choreography and formations were quite complex, and the song also has very high notes. As the main vocalist, I had to focus on both vocal stability and performance at the same time, so it was a difficult but meaningful stage.

Q8. What was your most precious memory with your team, and what did you enjoy the most about your time with your group?

All the time I spent with my team is something I can never replace. It was such a big part of my twenties.

We were all young and still learning, but there was so much value in moving toward the same dream together. I also learned a lot from the members personally. They helped me grow, and I’m very thankful for that.

Q9. Reflecting on your time with Cherry Bullet, what impact did the members have on your life?

My time with Cherry Bullet is such a precious and unforgettable memory for me.

The members are not only my colleagues, but also my friends and family. We lived together for years, so of course they became like family to me. Now, we are each walking our own paths, but I am always thankful for them, and we continue to support each other.

Q10. You have also released several solo songs, including “I Miss You Now” and “You Were.” As ballads, these tracks offer a different side to your artistry. What did you enjoy the most about working on these solo tracks?

Working on solo songs felt different because I was able to choose, think about, and express the songs more personally.

It was fun, but I also had many worries and concerns during the process. Still, I worked on them with a happy heart.

Most of all, releasing my first self-written song as a solo track was very meaningful to me.

Q11. The K-Pop industry is known for being very competitive, with many trainees all competing to debut in final lineups. Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to someone preparing to audition?

It is definitely a difficult path. That is why I hope people preparing for auditions can encourage themselves, believe in themselves, and hold on to their confidence.

Of course, that is not easy. To be honest, it was not always easy for me either.

But even when you are worried, anxious, or struggling, I think the most important thing is to keep going. Consistency is very important. I would like to tell them not to give up on themselves too quickly.

Q12. K-Pop is continuing to become more popular all around the world. What do you enjoy the most about K-Pop?

I think K-pop has a very high level of completeness.

The vocals, visuals, choreography, music, and concepts all have strong quality. Also, because many K-pop artists promote as groups, one group can show many different charms through its members. I think that is one of K-pop’s biggest strengths.

Q13. You are now using your experience and love for K-pop to help others through your new company, K.V.T LAB. Could you tell us a little bit more about your new company, and the services that it offers?

My new company, K.V.T LAB, is a vocal and Korean conversation lesson service for people all around the world who love K-pop.

From hobby classes to more professional artist training, K.V.T LAB gives students the chance to learn K-pop from someone who has personally experienced K-pop culture. I think that is one of our biggest strengths.

These classes include my experiences, my efforts, and everything I have learned throughout my journey. I plan to continue singing in the future, but I also want to share and spread K-pop in a different way. I hope my lessons can be helpful to people who love K-pop and want to grow through it.

Q14. K.V.T LAB offers 1:1 lessons in vocal coaching and language classes. What do you think is the benefit of teaching 1:1 compared to group teaching?

The biggest benefit is that 1:1 lessons can be fully personalized.

Every student has a different goal and a different reason for joining the class. Some people want to enjoy K-pop as a hobby, while others want to prepare more seriously for auditions or professional training.

Because each student is different, I believe the curriculum should also be different. That is the biggest strength of 1:1 lessons.

Q15. Lastly, do you have any messages for your fans, and for anyone looking to develop their K-Pop skills?

K.V.T LAB is a service for people all around the world who want to enjoy singing K-pop while learning Korean conversation, as well as for those who want more professional performance, vocal, and audition coaching.
