If you ask a K-Pop fan for some of their favourite underrated girl groups, there is a high chance that you may hear the names ‘Rocket Punch‘ and ‘EL7Z UP‘ mentioned.
Today’s featured artist was not only a member of both groups, but also a shining example of the hard work, commitment, and drive needed to debut as a K-Pop idol.
Yeonhee was the leader of Rocket Punch and a member of project group EL7Z UP. Read on to find out more about her time with both groups, her personal reflections, and her inspirational words for anyone looking to pursue a career in K-Pop.

Q1. Hello and welcome to HallyuTones! Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello everyone, this is Yeonhee from Rocket Punch 🙂
Q2. How did you feel when you first found out you were debuting? Was it pure happiness, or a mix of excitement, nerves, and other emotions?
When I first heard the news about my debut, I was incredibly happy. I was thrilled just by the fact that it was a debut I had dreamed of for so long, and I was truly delighted at the thought that I could finally show the stage I had been preparing.
At the same time, I think I got a bit solemn all by myself, thinking, ‘Now it really begins,’ haha.
Q3. Many K-Pop fans will know you best as the leader of Rocket Punch. What did you enjoy and what did you find most challenging about being a group leader?
I believe that while every member should fulfill their role as a team member, the leader must go a step further and carefully look after and lead the entire team.
There are various styles of leadership, but above all, I considered maintaining team harmony and maintaining an uncompromising attitude when it comes to work to be the most important.
The most difficult part was the moments when we had to communicate with the company and coordinate the diverse opinions of the members to make the choice that was most beneficial to us. Since I took on the role of leader at a young age, it was not easy for me, but I believe the process itself was an experience that helped me grow a lot.
On the other hand, the most rewarding moments were when I saw the team become one and grow together in a better direction through that process. I felt a great sense of pride whenever I earned the trust of the members and fans and heard them say, “You did a really good job as a leader.”
Q4. How do you think you changed between debuting with Rocket Punch and later joining EL7Z UP?
When I started working with EL7Z UP, I thought I had been given a second chance. It was after I had gained a lot of experience. In this respect, it seems my mindset has changed the most.
Unlike when Rocket Punch debuted, when we were simply full of ambition and determined to show what we had prepared, when I debuted with EL7Z UP, I was filled with excitement and determination to show something different from the existing color.
I absolutely didn’t want to miss out on this precious opportunity created by my fans and viewers. Through that experience, I think my mindset toward work has changed to be much more precious and affectionate.
Q5. EL7Z UP brought together members who had not trained together beforehand. How easy was it to build a bond and work as a team so quickly?
We were able to build teamwork much faster than everyone expected.
Since everyone had experience, we knew exactly what we needed to be considerate of each other. Above all, because we shared the same goal and a desire to repay those who supported us, I think everything was resolved really smoothly and quickly.
Q6. Did your experience as Rocket Punch’s leader help you in EL7Z UP, or did the dynamic feel different because the group included older and more experienced members?
In EL7Z UP, there were unnies and leaders with more experience than me, so I was able to relieve some of the responsibility of leading the team in the right direction as a leader, as well as the burden of communicating with the company.
Thanks to that, I think I was able to focus more on the activities themselves as a member and perform with a more relaxed mind.
Q7. What are your most memorable moments from each group?
I think the debut moments of each group and the performances with the fans are what remain in my memory.
The day I performed on the showcase stage as ‘Rocket Punch Yeonhee‘ for the first time after ending my trainee life, and I think I will never forget the day I sat in the chair as an EL7Z UP member amidst the support of so many people.
One day was the day I smiled the brightest in my life, and another day was the day I cried my eyes out the he most, haha.
And the days we held fan meetings and concerts also remain as precious memories. The gaze of the fans who looked at us with unconditional love, the atmosphere on stage, and even the process of preparing for that performance—these were all such precious moments.
Q8. Looking back on your time with Rocket Punch and EL7Z UP, what do those relationships mean to you now, and are there any members you still keep in touch with?
We don’t get to see each other often because we are all busy with our daily lives, but we still support one another and keep in touch. The members are always in my heart, and even now, they are still like family to me.
The time I spent running toward the same goal with the members, the process of preparing to stand on stage, and even the performances we created together—all of these remain precious memories and truly important experiences in my life.
Q9. What was your favourite song that Rocket Punch released and why?
I think I’m more drawn to songs that contain my feelings for the fans.
‘Lilac’ and ‘Wonderland‘ are songs that remind me of the love I received from my fans every time I listen to them. Lately, I’ve been listening to these three songs often, including ‘In My World‘.
Sometimes I forget what it means to live true to myself. At times like that, these songs give me strength again and remind me of my original intentions.
Q10. Rocket Punch spent years promoting in Japan. What was that experience like, and what were your favourite lessons or memories from the Japanese music industry?
My experience in Japan was really special. How should I put it… it’s hard to express in a single word, but it felt like a dream.
I still remember the days when I met Japanese fans in person, laughed together, and spent time in the same space, especially since they had previously only been able to meet via video calls because it was difficult for them to come to Korea to support me.
Also, watching the Korean and Japanese fans who came to meet Rocket Punch, I really felt that they sincerely enjoy our music and performances, and cherish every single stage. Seeing that, I think I also came to value every stage and the time spent with the fans even more.
Q11. K-pop can be a challenging industry, even for the biggest groups. How did you manage mentally during difficult times?
Whenever I went through a tough time, there was ultimately only one thing that allowed me to endure. It is believing in myself, and looking straight at my dream.
When even that couldn’t set me straight, I turned to my fans. My complete supporters. I think I was able to move forward again thanks to the encouragement from those who sent me words and affection.
Q12. What experience from your idol career taught you the most about yourself?
I’ve thought of myself as a pretty tough person since I was young. I felt that way as I watched myself silently endure better than others in any situation.
However, things were a little different after my debut. Just holding on wasn’t enough; I had to keep moving forward.
I think I realized, while going through a difficult time, that the driving force that moves me and the strength that allows me to live in this world was ‘dreams’.
Since then, I have always talked to my fans about my dreams. The eyes of a dreamer shine the most dazzlingly in the world. I hope my eyes continue to shine in the future.
Q13. During your time in the music industry you have been able to meet many fans from all around the world. What are some of your most treasured fan interactions?
The first thing that comes to mind is the letters I received from fans while promoting. They tell me why they started supporting me, what kind of strength our music and performances gave them at certain times, and even simply what kind of day they had…
Each and every one of those precious gestures gave me great strength.
Another memorable moment is when we toured various countries and performed during the EL7Z UP promotions.
There was a fan who came to see every single one of those performances without missing a single one.
It felt like you were saying, “I’ll be with you wherever you go,” so I think I was overwhelmed with emotions that I can’t fully express in words.
Q14. At HallyuTones we have previously interviewed Ryu Sujeong from Lovelyz. As Rocket Punch and Lovelyz were both under the same agency, do you have any memorable experiences or lessons from spending time around your seniors?
When I was a trainee, I went to see a concert by my seniors, Lovelyz. Seeing them shine so brightly on stage, it was the moment I vowed that I absolutely had to debut. And watching them, I think that was the first time I realized that the stage is something we create together with the fans.
It remains a memory that serves as a great source of motivation for me even now.
Q15. As someone who has debuted twice, what advice would you have for someone who may want to debut in the K-Pop industry?
I think being an idol is a dream job. There will certainly be many difficult times, and you will face unexpected moments. But in the end, I think the most important thing is the attitude of steadfastly moving forward.
And above all, I hope you don’t lose yourself amidst all the various standards and words. No matter what you go through or what you hear, in the end, you are you.
Please make sure not to forget that fact!
Q16. I saw on Instagram that you have been travelling. What are some of your favourite places you have visited, and why?
There are some countries I haven’t revealed yet, but I really love looking at the sky and the night view.
I think that’s why Hong Kong has stayed in my memory for so long. I have memories of suffering because I dressed lightly after failing to predict the weather, but above all, the night view of Hong Kong seen from the boat is still vivid in my mind.
Hong Kong was really… just beautiful, I think. From the city scenery and the sparkling night view to the old, large buildings, everything made for an enjoyable trip. Of course, I love all the other countries I’ve visited as well. Each of them gifted me with the joy of travel, with its own unique charm.
Q17. After several years performing with your groups, you are now working as a soloist. What are your future professional goals?
I think now is the time for me to expand my possibilities one by one. Whether as a solo artist or in other forms of activity, I want to be someone who continues to dream and never lets go of the stage and music.
And my biggest goal is to become someone who can be with my fans for a long time.
Q18. If you were to pursue a solo music career, what kind of concept or image would you like to try?
I have always wanted to sing songs that give strength to others. I think a singer who sings of beauty even in a difficult world truly shines. If someone listening to my songs can regain strength and find comfort, even for a moment, I think that is one of the greatest things an idol can do.
So, if I ever get to pursue a solo career, rather than a flashy and intense concept, I would like to try making music that conveys sincerity and comfort in a comfortable atmosphere.
Q19. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?
Surprisingly, I like quiet time. I enjoy taking walks while looking at the sky or the night view, and I feel great happiness in the moments I encounter new scenery while traveling.
I also like spending time quietly lost in thought at home. I feel like those moments recharge me, haha.
Q20. Lastly, do you have any messages for your fans or anyone discovering you for the first time?
Thanks to the fans who have always supported me by my side, I was always able to dream and move forward.

Q2. 처음 데뷔 소식을 접했을 때 어떤 기분이셨나요? 순수한 기쁨이었나요, 아니면 설렘과 긴장감 등 여러 감정이 뒤섞인 상태였나요?
-데뷔한다는 소식을 처음 들었을 때는 정말 너무너무 기뻤어요. 오랫동안 꿈꿔왔던 데뷔라는 사실만으로도 설렜고, 드디어 제가 준비해왔던 무대를 보여드릴 수 있다는 생각에 정말 행복했어요.
그러면서도 한편으로는 ‘이제 정말 시작이구나’ 하는 마음에 괜히 혼자 비장해지기도 했던 것 같아요ㅎㅎ
Q3. 많은 K-팝 팬분들께서는 당신을 로켓펀치(Rocket Punch)의 리더로 가장 잘 알고 계실 텐데요. 그룹 리더로서 활동하며 즐거웠던 점과 가장 힘들었던 점은 무엇이었나요?
-모든 멤버는 팀원으로서 마땅히 자신의 역할을 다해야 하지만 리더는 거기에서 한 걸음 더 나아가 팀 전체를 세심하게 살피고 이끌어야 하는 자리라고 생각해요. 리더십에도 여러 방식이 있지만, 저는 무엇보다 팀의 화합을 지키고 일에 있어서는 타협하지 않는 태도를 중요하게 생각했어요.
가장 어려웠던 건 회사와 소통하고 멤버들의 다양한 의견을 조율해 우리에게 가장 도움이 되는 선택을 해야하는 순간들이었어요. 저 역시 어린 나이에 리더를 맡았기 때문에 쉽지 않았지만 그 과정 자체가 저를 많이 성장시켜준 경험이었다고 생각합니다.
반대로 가장 보람을 느꼈던 순간은 그런 과정을 통해 팀이 하나가 되고 더 나은 방향으로 함께 성장하는 모습을 볼 때였어요.멤버들과 팬분들에게 신뢰를 얻고 “리더로써 정말 잘해냈다”는 이야기를 들을 때마다 큰 뿌듯함을 느꼈습니다.

-엘즈업으로 활동하게 됐을 때는 제 2의 기회를 얻었다 생각했어요. 많은 경험을 한 뒤였거든요. 이런 면에서는 역시나 마음가짐이 가장 바뀐 것 같네요.
마냥 패기 넘치고 준비한 걸 잘 보여드려야겠다는 마음이었던 로켓펀치 데뷔 때와는 다르게, 엘즈업 데뷔 때에는 기존의 색과 다른 걸 보여줄 수 있다는 설렘과 독기로 가득했어요.
팬분들과 시청자분들이 만들어주신 소중한 기회였기 때문에 절대 놓치고 싶지 않았거든요.그 경험을 통해 일을 대하는 마음가짐이 훨씬 더 소중하고 애틋하게 바뀐 것 같습니다.
Q5. EL7Z UP은 사전에 함께 연습한 적이 없는 멤버들로 구성되었습니다. 그렇게 짧은 시간 안에 유대감을 형성하고 팀으로 호흡을 맞추는 과정은 어떠셨나요?
-모두가 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 빠르게 팀워크를 만들 수 있었어요.
다들 경험이 있는 만큼 서로 어느 부분을 배려해야하는지 알고 있었고, 무엇보다 응원해주신 분들께 보답하고 싶다는 마음과 같은 목표를 바라보고 있었기 때문에 어떤 일이든 정말 일사천리로 해결됐던 것 같아요ㅎㅎ
Q6. 로켓펀치(Rocket Punch)의 리더로서 쌓은 경험이 EL7Z UP 활동에 도움이 되었나요, 아니면 연장자이자 경험이 더 많은 멤버들이 포함되어 있어 분위기가 달랐나요?
-엘즈업에는 저보다 경험이 많은 언니들과 리더가 있었기 때문에 리더로서 팀을 올바른 방향으로 이끌어야 한다는 책임감이나 회사와 소통해야 한다는 부담을 덜 수 있었어요.
덕분에 한 명의 멤버로서 활동 자체에 더 집중하면서 보다 편한 마음으로 활동할 수 있었던 것 같습니다.
Q7. 각 그룹 활동 중 가장 기억에 남는 순간은 언제인가요?
-아무래도 각 그룹의 데뷔 순간과 팬분들과 함께했던 공연이 기억에 남는 것 같아요.연습생 생활을 끝내고 처음으로 ‘로켓펀치 연희’로 쇼케이스 무대를 했던 날,
그리고 많은 분들의 응원 속에서 엘즈업 멤버로 의자에 앉았던 날은 평생 잊지 못할 것 같아요. 하루는 제 인생에서 가장 환하게 웃었던 날이고, 또 하루는 가장 펑펑 울었던 날이었어요ㅎㅎ
그리고 팬미팅과 콘서트를 했던 날도 소중한 기억으로 남아있어요.
온전히 사랑으로 바라봐주시던 팬분들의 눈빛, 무대 위 공기, 그 무대를 위해 준비했던 과정까지 너무 소중한 순간들이었습니다.
Q8. 로켓펀치(Rocket Punch)와 엘즈업(EL7Z UP)으로 활동했던 시간을 되돌아볼 때, 그 관계들은 지금 당신에게 어떤 의미인가요? 그리고 여전히 연락을 주고받는 멤버가 있나요?
-각자 바쁜 일상을 보내고 있어 자주 만나지는 못하지만, 여전히 서로를 응원하고 안부를 나누고 있어요. 멤버들은 늘 제 마음 속에 있고 지금도 저에게는 여전히 가족 같은 존재예요.
멤버들과 같은 목표를 향해 달려갔던 시간과 무대에 서기 위해 준비했던 과정, 그리고 함께 만들어간 무대까지 모두 제게는 소중한 기억이자 인생에서 정말 중요한 경험으로 남아있어요.
Q9. 로켓펀치가 발매한 곡 중 가장 좋아하는 곡은 무엇이며, 그 이유는 무엇인가요?
– 아무래도 팬분들을 향한 마음이 담긴 곡들에 더 마음이 가는 것 같아요. ‘다시, 봄’과 ‘wonderland’는 들을 때마다 팬분들께 받았던 사랑이 떠오르는 노래예요.
그리고 요즘은 ‘주인공’까지 이 3곡을 자주 듣고 있어요.
가끔은 나답게 사는 게 무엇인지 잊어버릴 때가 있거든요.
그럴 때 이 노래들이 저에게 다시 힘이 되어주고, 초심을 떠올리게 해주는 것 같아요.
Q10. 로켓펀치는 일본에서도 수년간 활동했는데요, 당시 경험은 어떠셨나요? 일본 음악계에서의 활동을 통해 얻은 교훈이나 기억에 남는 순간이 있다면 무엇인지 궁금합니다.
-일본에서의 경험은 정말 특별했어요. 뭐랄까.. 한마디로 표현하기 어려운데 꿈 같았어요.
한국으로 응원하러 오기 어려워 영상통화로만 만났던 일본 팬분들과 실제로 얼굴을 마주하고 같은 공간에서 함께 웃고 시간을 보냈던 날들이 아직도 기억에 남아있어요.
또 로켓펀치를 만나러 와주신 한국 팬분들과 일본 팬분들을 보면서 우리의 음악과 공연을 진심으로 즐겨주시고, 한 번의 무대를 정말 소중하게 여겨주신다는 걸 많이 느꼈어요. 그런 모습을 보면서 저도 매 무대와 팬분들과의 시간을 더 소중하게 생각하게 되었던 것 같아요.
Q11. K-pop은 최고의 그룹들에게조차 힘든 분야일 수 있습니다. 힘든 시기에 정신적으로 어떻게 대처하셨나요?
-힘든 시간을 보낼 때마다 제가 버틸 수 있게 해준 건 결국 단 하나였어요.
바로 나 자신을 믿는 것, 그리고 꿈을 똑바로 바라보는 것. 그마저도 나를 바르게 세워주지 못할 땐 팬분들을 찾았습니다.
온전한 내 편. 저를 위한 말과 애정을 보내주시는 분들의 응원을 받으며 다시 나아갈 수 있었던 것 같아요.
Q12. 아이돌 활동을 하면서 겪은 경험 중, 자신에 대해 가장 많은 것을 깨닫게 해 준 경험은 무엇인가요?
-저는 어렸을 때부터 제가 꽤 단단한 사람이라고 생각했어요.
어떤 상황에서도 남들보다 묵묵히 잘 버텨내는 제 모습을 보며 그렇게 느꼈거든요.그런데 데뷔 후에는 조금 달랐어요.버티는 것만으로는 안됐고, 계속해서 앞으로 나아가야했거든요.
그 때 저는 깨달았어요.
나를 움직이는 원동력이, 내가 세상을 살아가는 힘이 ‘꿈’이었다는 걸 힘든 시기를 지나며 알게 된 것 같아요.
그 뒤로는 늘 팬분들께 꿈에 대해 말하곤 했어요.‘꿈을 꾸는 사람의 눈이 세상에서 가장 눈부시게 빛난다’.
저는 앞으로도 제 눈이 계속 빛나기를 바라요.
Q13. 음악계에 몸담고 계시는 동안 전 세계의 수많은 팬을 만나셨을 텐데요, 팬들과의 교감 중 가장 소중하게 기억되는 순간은 언제인가요?
-활동하면서 팬분들께 받았던 편지들이 가장 먼저 떠올라요. 저를 왜 응원하게 되었는지, 저희의 음악과 무대가 어떤 시기에 어떤 힘이 되었는지, 그리고 단순히 오늘은 어떤 하루를 보냈는지까지…
그 하나하나의 소중한 마음들이 저에게는 정말 큰 힘이 되었어요.또 하나 기억에 남는 건 엘즈업 활동 당시 여러나라를 다니며 공연을 했을 때예요.
그 모든 공연을 빠짐없이 보러 와주신 팬분이 계셨거든요.마치 “어디든 함께할게”라고 말해주시는 것 같아서, 말로 다 표현할 수 없는 감정이 밀려왔던 것 같아요.
Q14. HallyuTones는 이전에 러블리즈의 류수정 님과 인터뷰를 진행한 적이 있습니다. 로켓펀치와 러블리즈는 같은 소속사였는데, 선배님들과 함께하며 기억에 남는 경험이나 배운 점이 있나요?
-연습생 때 러블리즈 선배님들의 콘서트를 보러간 적이 있어요. 무대 위에서 반짝반짝 빛나는 선배님들을 보고 꼭 데뷔를 해야겠다고 다짐했던 순간이었어요. 그리고 그 모습을 보면서 무대는 팬분들과 함께 만들어가는 것이라는 걸 처음으로 느꼈던 것 같아요.
지금도 저에게는 큰 동기부여가 되는 기억으로 남아있습니다.
Q15. 두 번이나 데뷔를 경험한 분으로서, K-팝 업계에서의 데뷔를 꿈꾸는 사람들에게 어떤 조언을 해주고 싶으신가요?
-저는 아이돌은 꿈을 꾸는 직업이라고 생각해요. 분명 힘든 일들도 많고, 예상하지 못한 순간들을 마주하게 될 거예요.
하지만 결국 가장 중요한 건 꿋꿋하게 앞으로 나아가는 자세인 것 같아요.그리고 무엇보다 여러 기준과 많은 말들 속에서 자기 자신을 잃지 않았으면 좋겠어요.
어떤 일을 겪고, 어떤 말을 듣더라도 결국 여러분은 여러분이에요.
그 사실을 꼭 잊지 마세요!
Q16. 인스타그램을 보니 여행을 다니시는 것 같던데요. 지금까지 가본 곳 중 가장 좋았던 곳은 어디이며, 그 이유는 무엇인가요?
-아직 공개하지 못한 나라도 있지만, 저는 하늘과 야경을 보는 걸 정말 좋아해요. 그래서 홍콩이 오래 기억에 남아 있는 것 같아요.
날씨 예측에 실패해서 얇게 입고갔다가 고생했던 기억도 있고, 무엇보다 배를 타고 바라봤던 홍콩의 야경이 아직도 선명하게 남아있어요.
홍콩은 정말… 그냥 아름다웠던 것 같아요.
도시의 풍경도, 반짝이던 야경도, 오래된 큰 건물들까지 모두 즐거운 여행이었습니다.
물론 제가 다녀왔던 다른 나라들도 모두 애정합니다. 각자 다른 매력으로 여행의 즐거움을 선물해줬거든요ㅎㅎ
Q17. 여러 그룹에서 활동하신 후, 현재는 솔리스트로 활동하고 계십니다. 앞으로의 직업적 목표는 무엇인가요?
-지금은 제 가능성을 하나씩 넓혀가고 싶은 시기인 것 같아요. 솔로 아티스트로서든, 또 다른 형태의 활동이든, 어떤 모습으로든 계속 꿈을 꾸고 무대와 음악을 놓지 않는 사람이 되고 싶습니다.
그리고 오랫동안 팬분들과 함께할 수 있는 사람이 되는 것이 가장 큰 목표예요.
Q18. 만약 솔로 뮤지션으로 활동하게 된다면, 어떤 콘셉트나 이미지를 시도해보고 싶으신가요?
-저는 예전부터 늘 누군가에게 힘이 되는 노래를 하고 싶었어요.
힘든 세상 속에서도 아름다움을 노래하는 가수는 정말 빛나 보인다고 생각하거든요.
제 노래를 듣는 사람이 다시 한 번 힘을 내고, 잠시라도 위로를 받게 된다면 그게 제가 생각하는 아이돌이 할 수 있는 가장 큰 일 중 하나라고 생각해요.
그래서 언젠가 솔로활동을 하게 된다면 화려하고 강렬한 컨셉보다는 편안한 분위기 속에서 진심과 위로를 전할 수 있는 음악을 해보고 싶어요.
Q19. 업무 외 시간에 즐겨 하시는 활동은 무엇인가요?
-저는 의외로 조용한 시간을 좋아해요.
하늘을 보거나 야경을 보면서 산책하는 걸 좋아하고, 여행을 하면서 새로운 풍경을 만나는 순간에도 큰 행복을 느껴요.
또 집에서는 가만히 생각에 잠기는 시간도 좋아해요.그런 시간들이 저를 다시 충전시켜주는 것 같거든요ㅎㅎ
Q20. 마지막으로, 팬분들이나 여러분을 처음 알게 된 분들에게 전하고 싶은 메시지가 있나요?
-늘 곁에서 응원해 주시는 팬분들 덕분에 저는 항상 꿈을 꾸고, 또 앞으로 나아갈 수 있었어요.
