Hello and welcome back to HallyuTones — always focused on sound, stage, and substance.
Our aim is to go beyond the expected. We specialise on in-depth reviews of Korean music, interviews with Korean artists, producers and songwriters, and analysis of musical themes within the K-Pop genre.
Instead of just focusing on some of the biggest exports of the HallyuWave, we endeavour to showcase the full spectrum of Korean music – from pop acts, to bands, indie acts, traditional music and much more!
As we get to know the different parts of the Korean music entertainment industry, and the people who keep it pushing, we hope to platform interesting, and insightful conversations about all the creativity that Korea, and Asia at large, has to offer.
Meet The Team
HallyuTones is a multi-national team of music enthusiasts from all over the world. Our team hopes to use our curiosity and tastes to bring together listeners and viewers from all spectrums to share in the joy of art together.
Owner – Nate (@h1mixx on X), who has been a K-Pop fan for over fifteen years, enjoys exploring the depths of the genre to discover new artists and songs. Beginning his journey with hosting K-Pop societies while at university, he has previous experience working with industry professionals in interview settings. His goals are to bring the focus of K-Pop music back to the artists, their music and their goals.
Co-owner – Tshego joins the team ready to bridge gaps in perception. As a young Black South African, they are interested in music and its ability to shape people and society. Their journey with K-pop began as a meeting between western pop music, Korean pop artists, and hispanic fandom circles. Since then, the intersections of culture, language and fandom have increasingly become topics of interest for them and they hope to continue unraveling the mysteries and mastery of K-Pop with HallyuTones readers.
Multimedia – Janis is a K-music journalist based in the UK. She specialises in K-Hip-Hop and K-R&B with a strong focus on highlighting those who are underrepresented in the Korean Music scene. Beyond writing, she has a strong passion for content creation and graphic design which led her to explore the creative aspects within the Korean Entertainment industry. Janis carries a mission of promoting the discovery of Indie, Alternative Korean Music and a curiosity to unfold the vast world-building within K-pop. Ultimately, she is dedicated to highlighting those whose hard work behind the scenes drives the industry to flourish and bring these worlds to life.
Writer – Zara (Zed) is a film student with an interest in K-pop. With a passion for cinematography, she was drawn to the strong visuals, creative concept and the storytelling that happens in just a few minute long music video. Becoming a fan of K-pop in 2019 through BTS, she has since discovered various lesser known groups and wants to show her support to those needing it. Now with a space to talk about her interest in depth, she hopes to spotlight deserving artists and celebrate the hard work that goes beyond the idol appearing on stage.
Writer – Vince (Pastel) is a college student from the Philippines with a deep passion and love for writing, one that has translated into K-pop writing after prior experience writing about video games. After being introduced by their cousin to TWICE, they subsequently fell more and more in love with K-pop and what it offered, eventually settling into a love for girl groups and soloists both popular and underrated. Now, they keep up with brand new debuting artists and ones who have stuck around over the years, having come to appreciate the talent and diversity each artist brings to the scene. They strive to always support independent groups and soloists, giving them the attention they rightfully deserve. Now, as a writer for HallyuTones, they have an avenue through which they can comfortably discuss and talk about artists that they are deeply passionate about, with a desire to explore and expand both theirs and other people’s taste in music.
